If someone asks for advise on a place , our job or task is to give them the advice they want , and as someone who has visited Puerto for 16 years , I think my advice is based on what I have seen over all these years.
Hi, we have been going to Puerto for many years both winter and summer. It can be a little cloudy, but it is very light and the sun quickly burns through. It does have more rain, especially higher up the Oratava Valley. In the past 10 years we have only had 2 wet days when we had to stay indoors. The OP did not ask about the weather but as anyone who visits the north regularly will tell you, you still get plenty of sunshine and the weather is not an issue. However, if weather is an absolute priority you should go to the south.
There are British holiday makers but they are probably a minority with there being many Spanish, French, German, Dutch and Scandinavian tourists also. If you want predominantly British then head for the south.
Again, head south if that is what you require. Many children seem to cope with the transfer and, bless them, adapt well to a black beach. I don't know the alta apartments but most places are close to the centre. I would happily recommend PDLC to anyone who would enjoy and appreciate an atmospheric Canarian resort. You may find the comments tedious RichMelBarnet but they are facts, not just personal preferences.
The beaches are black volcanic sand without any alternative even if it is imported of soft golden sand. There is little in the way of entertainment for youngsters other than Loro Parque if you like zoos and the Lido.
