The reason I asked is because when you visit Wikipedia it says Americans can stay in Albania for up to a year: Albania is known for its criminal elements and I wanted to read responses from those that have been there. Not people hurling ignorant insults. Albania is known for its criminal elements according to who??? Albania has got no more, no less criminals than any other europian country, and is a safe country.
In fact it is much safer than many western countries. Having said that though, every tourist should be careful as they would when visiting other countries. I believe Americans can stay up to a year without visa, and if they wish to stay longer they easily can get a residence permit.

Albanian gangsters operate in big operations mostly outside Albania and have nothing to do with small unimportant fishes such as you. I have felt more safe in Albania than in Netherlands for example.
